Bridal Show Success

On Sunday Sept.30, 2007, I set up a display at a local Bridal Show. I met with lots of Brides for the upcoming 2008-2009 Bridal season. For my booth I decided to go with a very lavish scheme using multiple shades of Violet. From Blackish Purple to a Pale Lavender. The colors went together wonderfully. Here are the pictures I took from the show. I hope you will enjoy them. If you have any questions or would like to set up a FREE in-home consultation with me, call The Indigo Violet at (860)559-2036 or check out the website (www.TheIndigoViolet.com) and fill out the register card.

Thanks again to all of you who stopped by and visited my booth. I hope to hear from you soon.

Fall Wedding Bouquet

Here is a wedding bouquet that has the "taste" of fall. Starting with the beautiful roses that I have chosen for this bouquet. The variety used here are called "Gypsy Curiosa." They have a wonderful deep golden yellow hue that is edged with a touch of red. This color combination really sets the fall tone. For a background I used a crisp green filler called Buplorum. This makes the yellow/red of the roses "pop" out. To add a bit of texture to this bridal bouquet, I placed dried Lotus Pods between the roses. The brown corresponds well with the autumn theme and adds a wonderful aspect of interest. To tie it all together, a shimmering satin ribbon in a Rust color is the final touch. A great bouquet for a fall time Bride.

Fall Weddings

Fall is fast becoming a popular time for Brides. The cooler weather and lower humidity, makes it a comfortable time for everyone in the Wedding party. Here in New England the colorful tapestry of richly colored leaves enhances the backdrop of the Wedding day. Fall is a great time to get inspired for your Bridal Bouquet and decor. To bring some fall to your Bridal flowers use the things that are in season to blend with this wonderful time of year. Start out with some boldly colored flowers that will compliment the season. Red, burgundy, burnt orange, even shades of brown can bring together a Bridal Bouquet. Textures add interest to Bouquets and Floral Arrangements. Get creative! Use berries, red rose hips, pine cones, colorful gourds or even some colorful leaves. Fall is the best time for an enjoyable Wedding and beautiful floral designs. For more ideas leave a post. I'd love to help you out.

Wedding Bouquets- cutting cost

Many Brides are looking for low cost alternatives when planning the flowers for their wedding day. There are a few things Brides can keep in mind when choosing their flowers. First is the availability of certain flowers. Flower prices double when they have to shipped in from other countries. The reason this may happen is because the flowers is out of season or is not local to the area you live. Also keep in mind that the farther the flowers come from the more stress they've endured on there trip. The best way to go is local and in season.

Another way to keep on budget is to use different varieties of flowers. Talk to your floral designer and discuss some lower priced flowers or combinations. Don't get stuck in a rut thinking that certain flowers will make bouquets look "cheap". Carnations are on the low end of the price range for flowers because they are grown in abundance and are highly availability. Have you seen some of the varieties of carnations lately?? The colors are amazing.

Keep cost at a minimum, reanalyze your decorating scheme. Does every pew of the church need flowers? Denote the important parties by having flowers on the rows they will sit. usually only the first few. The rest can have very nice pew bows affixed to them. Also at the reception you may have decided you really want elaborate centerpieces for the guests tables. That can add to your tab really quickly. How about only putting the highly elaborate pieces on every other table and subbing a more cost effective design on the other. Your guest will still get the effect of the high end table decor.

Plants can be another way to save some money. In spring beautiful pots of pansies can decorate the room, summer use potted zinnias or sunflowers, towards fall hydrangea and mums add a spark of color. Decorate the pots with artistic foils or colored tissue paper, add elaborate bows that corresponds with your color scheme or flower picks to add some glamor. And when your done transplant to your garden so your memories can live on!

Remember this is your day and if you really love flowers there are ways to save some change. Just remember not to skimp on the Bridal Bouquet, this will be in all your pictures for you to remember. Relax, enjoy and have fun planning!

Flowers with Fragrance

With Wedding season fast approaching, I know lots of Brides are looking for the right color combinations for their Bridal Bouquets. Although color plays a big role, have you thought about the smell of your flowers. Fragrance often plays a large part on our memories. My fondest memories are of are of enjoying my mothers flower garden and smelling the sweet scent of honeysuckle wafting in the breeze.

In this monochromatic (all one color, also using tints and shades of that color) Bridal Bouquet Gardenias and White Freesia give this bouquet a very sweet fragrance with a bit of spice. Other flowers included in this cascading Bridal Bouquet are: Cream colored Lisianthus and White Dendrobium Orchids.

To add some great natural fragrances I've compiled a list of sweetly scented blooms often found in Bridal bouquets:

Fragrant Bridal Blooms

  • Carnations
  • Freesia
  • gardenia
  • Hyacinth
  • Jasmine
  • Lavender
  • Liliac
  • Lily-of-the-Valley
  • Oriental Lilies
  • Peony
  • Roses (Certain Varieties)
  • Stephanotis
  • Stock
  • Sweet Pea
  • Also consider adding your favorite smelling Herbs such as Rosemary, Mints, Thyme , Ect.

Starting a Business

I have recently started a new business creating wedding bouquets and other wedding day flowers for brides in Connecticut and surrounding areas. I am new to "blogging" and just wanted to see what it was about. It looks like it will be a great place to post articles about weddings and flowers.
